If you are looking for a big horse ranch or a home on acres in one of the cooler inland parts of the Central Coast you will want to start by looking at South County Horse Ranches.

If you prefer warmer weather, you will want to look at the North County Ranches and homes on acres, which include Paso Robles, Templeton, Santa Margarita, and Atascadero. You can also find a few much cooler climate Coastal Beach Horse Ranches and beach homes on acres in: Harmony, Cambria, Cayucos, Los Osos, San Simeon, Morro Bay, Harmony and Avila Beach.

The basic rule in SLO county is that you need at least one acre for up to three horses. There are a few ranches for sale with horse facilities on them already, but I have found that folks that love horses, who have built amazing horse facilities, do not move often. When they finally sale their property, they usually to want a lot of money for all of the extras, such as fencing, stables and barns. So, considering the cost is normally in land and the home, it is significantly less expensive to install your own custom horse facility and buy the home for less money, As an extra bonus, it could save save you thousands of dollars in property taxes.
