If you prefer cooler weather, you will want to look at the South County Horse Ranches and homes on acres, which include: Arroyo Grande, San Luis Obispo and Nipomo. You can also find even cooler weather by looking at Coastal Beach Horse Ranches and homes on Acres in: Harmony, Cambria, Cayucos, Morro Bay, Los Osos, Avila Beach and Pismo Beach.

For all of SLO County the basic rule is that you need at least one acre to support up to three horses. There are several homes with horse facilities on them already, but I have found that folks that love horses, who have built amazing facilities, tend to not move around a lot. When they do finally sale there property, they tend to want a lot of money to pay for the fences and stables. So, considering the cost is normally in land and the home, you might find your costs significantly less expensive to install your own custom horse facility.
